Who Me?
This picture of me and my son sums up why photography is so important and why I do what I do. Its not a perfect image in any way technically but it doesn't matter. There is magic here. A perfect happy silly moment with the two of us thinking of nothing else than the moment we were in. (we were at a neighborhood version of Burning Man, hence the glitter). My goal as a photographer is to capture moments like these at events, milestones or maybe even on a lazy Sunday afternoon in my clients lives.
When I was designing this website and was looking over the body of work I have compiled over the years, it confirms that I am doing exactly what I need to be doing. So many clients have turned into friends. When I look back at the images I've captured, I can recall the emotions and still hear the laughs behind every photo and I know that my clients do, too. My job is to capture THEIR magic.
Do I tell stories? Sure. Do I capture memories? Of course. However, I think the best thing you can do as a photographer is listen first. Get the little details. It's difficult to tell a story if you don't know your characters. When I get to know my clients, I learn what makes them tick, smile, shy away, giggle or roar with laughter. That's how you create. That's how magic happens.
